Curtiss Robin

The Curtiss Robin, introduced in 1928, was a high-wing monoplane with a 90 hp V8 OX-5 8-cylinder engine built by Curtiss-Robertson Airplane Manufacturing Company. Successor to the world famous Tiger Moth biplane, the Chipmunk was the first original design by deHaviland Canada and was built in quantity in Canada and in Great Britain for R.A.F. Primarily used as a basic trainer to provide air cadets with elementary flying instructions prior to going onto jet aircraft training. The parent Canadian company produced a total of 218 DHC-1’s y of which remain in service with the R.C.A.F. One thousand fourteen were built by deHaviland in the U.K. including both military and civilian versions. As a civilian aircraft, the Chipmunk is often seen an aerobatics competition. Douglas DC-3 / C-47

Considered to be the single most important aircraft in the history of air transportation, the DC-3 first flew in 1935. Douglas Aircraft built it as a replacement for the smaller DC-2. Its 180 MPH cruising speed made it the fastest of its day, and carried 11 more passengers than the Boeing 247. By 1938, 80 percent of all American commercial airline traffic was carried on DC-3’s. During World War 2, the military conversion of the DC-3, the C-47 was used by the thousands in every theatre of the war. After the war, many of the surplus C-47’s were converted back to civilian service. Wing Span: 24" Scale: 1/32 Min. Age: 14.

Douglas SBD-3 Dauntless

In two early U.S. Navy engagements of World War 2, the Battles of the Coral Sea and Midway Island, the carrier based Dauntless dive bomber played an historic part in blunting the Japanese offensive that began at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Fulfilling the attack role assigned to it at its conception, the SBD, operating from the decks of the carriers Lexington, Yorktown, Wasp, and Enterprise, mortally damaged the main units of the Japanese carrier fleet and set the stage for the ultimate Allied victory in the Pacific theatre. Not as well known is its impressive record for shooting down enemy aircraft when protecting the U.S. carrier form Japanese air strikes- prowess not expected of a dive-bomber. At war’s end, the claim was made that the Dauntless SBD had sunk more enemy combatant tonnage than all other arms of the service combined. Wing Span: 31¼" Scale: 1/16 Min. Age: 14

Erco Ercoupe

ERCO is a contraction for "Engineering Research Corporation" whose first product, the Ercoupe, was released in 1939. Designed by the brilliant aircraft designer Fred Weick, it was the first tricycle geared production general aviation aircraft. It carried two people and cruised at 115 miles per hour. The distinctive twin rudders were interconnected with the ailerons rather than operated by pedals.

The first F-14 Tomcat made its maiden flight on Dec. 21, 1970. It was the culmination of an extensive Grumman Aerospace Corporation’s design program to meet U.S. Navy specifications for an effective shipboard fighter. The F-14 was introduced to the fleet on Oct. 14, 1972 and went to sea for the first time in operational deployment on Sept. 17, 1974.
